In 1940, Reverend W. Eberwein wrote a fascinating history of the building of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Port Carbon. What is so interesting about the story is exactly how the church was built -- completely from stones. As you read his words, to quote the Reverend, "You cannot fail to see the hand of God at work, enabling us to do a task which at the time seemed impossible." Today, looking at the church, one would never suspect that such an attractive building could have been made of seemingly worthless stones. Now these stones that came from foundations, out of cellars, homes, shops, roundhouses, farms, and fences, now forms the beautiful structure in which we worship our God. With the whole structure made of stone, a slate roof, and copper gutters, it beautifully accented by stained glass windows to complete the picture. "The members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church realize that with the help of the Lord, anything is possible."
